Changing Lives Through Horses (CLTH) is tailored to individual students depending on the level of course they are doing and their learning needs. At Tumpy Green, our qualified SEND Teaching Assistant will work with the schools and social workers to deliver this educational programme designed by the British Horse Society. The CLTH scheme runs in line with the National Curriculum for KS1 and KS2 (Achievers Framework), and KS3 and core subjects within KS4 (Explorers Framework), to deliver an alternative source of learning to those who would benefit from it.
We are offering for all perspective students to try the CLTH scheme for one half term before enrolling for a year at a time. The British Horse Society supplied workbooks for the CLTH Awards which incorporate life skills as well as horsemanship skills.
The programme is suitable for:
● Young persons (5-15) who are either permanently excluded, at risk of permanent exclusion or who have special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
● Young persons (16-25) who are not in employment, education or training (NEET), therefore at risk of becoming socially excluded with income below the poverty line and without the skills to improve their economic situation.
The CLTH scheme is paid as a half-term at a time by the school (if there is funding available for the individual based on their EHCP) or the parent (if no funding available). The rates are:
| Half a day Private | 3 hours | £235.60 |
| Private | Per hour | £81.70 |
| 1 hour Group session | Based on 2-3 children sharing | £75.80 per hour per child |
| Based on 4 children sharing | £58.10 per hour per child |
The amount of time each student needs to commit to the programme is subject to the individual – it can be 1 hour per week, up to a day per week. The hours can also be split over multiple days. Tumpy Green will liaise with the school to determine mutually suitable delivery times for the programme.
This programme can assist young people to gaining employment in the equestrian industry. Those on the Explorers pathway will be offered the opportunity to complete Personal Tumpy Green Equestrian Centre Development modules alongside the equine modules.
Upon completion of these Personal Development modules and the Gold Explorers Workbooks, the young person can gain a funded place on a BHS Stage 1 assessment. This is a nationally recognised Level 1 Certificate and is the first step on the pathway to gaining employment in the equestrian industry. They can then progress to Stage 2 and Stage 3, where there are 3 sections to each qualification.
Completion of 2 of the 3 Stage 3 assessments gives the pupil the required UCAS points for entry onto a Foundation Degree in an Equine subject area.
Completion of all 3 sections has the points weighting of an A* at A-Level. These qualifications are industry expected standards for gaining employment as a groom and/or coach.
